Scarless Robotic Surgery

A Virtually Scarless Procedure

If you have been told you need gallbladder surgery, ask your doctor about Single-Site da Vinci Surgery.

This procedure is performed through a single incision using state-of-the-art precision instruments. Patients who choose Single-Site da Vinci Surgery experience a virtually scarless procedure since surgery is performed through only one incision in the navel (belly button), which dramatically limits visible scarring.

The primary potential benefits* of Single-Site da Vinci Surgery include:

  • Minimal scarring4,5
  • Minimal pain4,6
  • Low blood loss4
  • Fast recovery6
  • Short hospital stay4,6
  • High patient satisfaction6

As with any surgery, these benefits cannot be guaranteed since surgery is unique to each patient and procedure.

The Enabling Technology

da Vinci® Surgical System with Single-Site™ Technology

The da Vinci Surgical System is designed to overcome the limitations of manual laparoscopy with enhanced capabilities, including high definition 3D vision and a magnified view.

Your doctor controls the da Vinci System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body.

Though it is often called a “robot,” da Vinci cannot act on its own – the surgery is performed entirely by your doctor.

Together, the da Vinci System and Single-Site™ instruments allow your doctor to perform gallbladder surgery through a single incision. As a result, you may be able to get back to your life without the recovery or scars that usually follow major surgery.

The da Vinci System has been used successfully worldwide in hundreds of thousands of procedures to date.

All surgeries, including da Vinci Surgery, involve risk of major complications. Before you decide on surgery, discuss treatment options with your doctor. Understanding the risks of each treatment can help you make the best decision for your situation.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

Obesity is emerging as a health epidemic around the world. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity is rapidly spreading across all regions and demographic groups.

Obesity is an excess of total body fat, which results from caloric intake that exceeds energy usage.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass

In Gastric Bypass procedure, a small stomach pouch is created to restrict food intake. Next, a Y-shaped section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow food to bypass the lower stomach, the duodenum (the first segment of the small intestine), and the first portion of the jejunum (the second segment of the small intestine). This bypass reduces the absorption of nutrients and thereby reduces the calorie intake.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve Gastrectomy (Tube Gastrectomy) procedure involves removing the lateral 2/3rds of the stomach with a stapling device. It can be done laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) but is not reversible. It basically leaves a stomach tube instead of a stomach sack.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

In Adjustable gastric banding procedure, a hollow band made of special material is placed around the stomach near its upper end, creating a small pouch and a narrow passage into the larger remainder of the stomach. The band is then inflated with a salt solution. It can be tightened or loosened over time to change the size of the passage by increasing or decreasing the amount of salt solution.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopy is commonly performed procedure to Investigate and some key hole surgeries on abdominal and pelvic organs.

Laparoscopy is direct visualization of the abdominal cavity and intra-abdominal organs by using a laparoscopy. The laparoscope is a long thin instrument with a light source at its tip, to light up the inside of the abdomen or pelvis. Fibreoptic fibres carry images from a lens, also at the tip of the instrument, to a video monitor, which the surgeon and other theatre staff can view in real time.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is put into the abdomen through a special needle that is inserted just above the navel. This gas helps to separate the organs inside the abdominal cavity, making it easier for the physician to see the intra-abdominal organs during laparoscopy. The gas is removed at the end of the procedure.

Obesity Surgery in California

Before seeing any medical specialist, it is always preferable to talk to your own family doctor, who can discuss your condition with you and advice on whether any specialist care is appropriate. If it is, he or she can help you to choose the specialist best suited to your needs. Your family doctor can help the specialist to care for you better by providing relevant information about your health. Communicating with the specialist will also enable your family doctor to care for you better during and after your specialist treatment.

Most medical specialists will accept only referred patients. This is partly to try to ensure that the specialist you are seeing is appropriate for you and your condition, and also because Medicare pays higher rebates for specialist services if you have been referred.

Your medical file is handled with the utmost respect for your privacy. Our staffs are bound by strict confidentiality requirements as a condition of employment regarding your medical records. Ordinarily we will not release the contents of your medical file without your consent.

During your initial visit, the doctor will explain the specific test or procedure you want, help you visualize the results and go over the risks. He may do a physical examination and ask you a bunch of questions. Once you go and have the test done then he will decide what your diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Like every operation, there is a risk. Because our patients already have health-related problems, there is an increased risk of complications. However, our team makes sure the thoroughly screen you to make sure that there are no surprises on the operating table. If we feel that it is not safe to operate on you, we will not proceed. However we will gladly work with you in order for you to be eligible for the operation. Your team will be behind you 100% before, during, and after the surgery.

This really depends on your job. If you work in a low-impact office, you may be able to go back to work after 3 weeks. If you are a construction worker, you may be able to go back after 6 weeks. Each patient heals on their own time, so everyone will recover on their own time.

We strongly recommend you exercise after your operation to help you lose the weight the fastest. Feel free to take some light, brisk walks when you return home. Most of our patients can proceed with a regular stint of exercise after 6 weeks.

Your body needs to receive the proper vitamins in order to survive. We have created our own special vitamins for you to take after the operation. Your doctor will also go over with you any medicines you need to take. Most patients actually stop taking their medication from pre-surgery because they are healthy!

Right after the operation, we will put you on a strict menu of liquid foods. You will be on our strict diet plan while you heal. The doctor will let you know what foods you will be able to eat and when you start eating them. Most of our patients become lactose intolerant after the operation. We will work with you after the operation to change your diet and show you which foods are good for you and which are not. You will eat whatever you want, but in small portions. Even so, your appetite will feel satiated, and you will not feel hungry.
