Most medical specialists will accept only referred patients. This is partly to try to ensure that the specialist you are seeing is appropriate for you and your condition, and also because Medicare pays higher rebates for specialist services if you have been referred. Before seeing any medical specialist, it is always preferable to talk to your own family doctor, who can discuss your condition with you and advice on whether any specialist care is appropriate. If it is, he or she can help you to choose the specialist best suited to your needs. Your family doctor can help the specialist to care for you better by providing relevant information about your health. Communicating with the specialist will also enable your family doctor to care for you better during and after your specialist treatment.
During your initial visit, the doctor will explain the specific test or procedure you want, help you visualize the results and go over the risks. He may do a physical examination and ask you a bunch of questions. Once you go and have the test done then he will decide what your diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Right after the operation, we will put you on a strict menu of liquid foods. You will be on our strict diet plan while you heal. The doctor will let you know what foods you will be able to eat and when you start eating them. Most of our patients become lactose intolerant after the operation. We will work with you after the operation to change your diet and show you which foods are good for you and which are not. You will eat whatever you want, but in small portions. Even so, your appetite will feel satiated, and you will not feel hungry.
Most of the weight will be lost in the first six months. Some patients have even been able to lose weight for up to two years after the surgery. This surgery is a tool to help you lose weight, and exercise and diet will help you achieve your ideal body weight. We even have had patients reach a size zero! Losing weight this fast is not a dangerous procedure if you maintain your vitamin supplements and diet. Our team will be with you 100% to support you after the operation.
